Kasi Cheyenne Johns

I had a model search going for dancers and this young woman was brought to me by a friend of a friend. I am so glad she was. Kasi is an excellent dancer and a total sweetheart. At 24 years old, she knows exactly what she wants to do. Being a Texas native from San Antonio, she has the Texas twang in her talk and the Texas attitude in her walk. She dances with grace and poise with is no surprise that she teaches dance at Center Stage here in Odessa.

When asked about her dancing, Kasi replied, "I started dancing when I was 10 in a ballet class and didn't like my teacher so I quit after a year. In my 7th grade year my neighbor and close friend begged and convinced me to audition for a private competitive dance team, Star Dancers, with her and at first I refused but eventually went for support, not knowing I'd make the team with her! From then on out, I fell in love with the dance world and found my greatest passion in dance. I dance as I breathe. Dance gives me a way to express myself through movement, and create pieces that will inspire others to do what they love as well! I started teaching dance to help spread the love of the art, but also bring it to light, that dance IS a sport, and the arts should be held just as highly as football or baseball or other team type sports." I couldn't agree more Kasi.

Kasi has been in a large number of dance groups and competitions in her lifetime thus far. Her list is quite lengthy. She's been involved in Star Dancers, Round Rock Dragonettes where she served as officer for 2 years, helped found Rockswag Hip Hop club at Round Rock, and also founded PRIDE Dance Club at Texas State Univ, and attended Texas State University in pursuit of my BFA in Dance Education. She participated in many dance performances while attending there. She began teaching at Dance N Groove in Hutto, TX and taught at that studio for 2 years, until she then moved to Odessa and started to teach at Center Stage Dance Studio.

Kasi says in 5 years, "I'm hoping to still be teaching, maybe in an ownership type setting. I'd love to have my own studio and encorporate fitness programs into my class schedule as well, not just dance! Zumba, Yoga, Barre workout and the list goes on..."

It was such fun working with her and watching her express herself through dance and movement. She brought along her boyfriend, Dustin, who was her DJ and her #1 fan. It is awesome to find someone who loves you for you and continues to support you through your dreams.

2018; The Year of the Dog

According to the Chinese calendar, 2018 is the Year of the Dog. To be more accurate, it is the Year of the Earth Dog as earth is the governing element of the two year-period corresponding to the year 4716 within the chronology of the Chinese calendar. The last Year of the Earth Dog occurred in 1958. Courtesy of: calenworld.com/world/chinese-calendar/2018-year-of-the-dog

You can learn a lot online. For instance, karma weather.com says this is the year for new business ventures and a good time for lifestyle changes (quitting smoking or changing residences, etc..) I will be doing both for that matter. My business practices will be changing as well as our place of residence. The latter not immediately. He first begins today. I have added a new page to my website. It is called Collections. Read through it, if you will. I will begin the year selling my sessions as mentioned on the Collections page.

I adore my clients. Every single one of y'all. That being said, if I don't go up, I'll be going out...of business. We don't want that. I don't want that. Thank you for sticking by me through the good the bad and the amazing. I am honored and blessed to have such wonderful people around me.

Christmas Countdown

We are in the home stretch for Christmas. It is 5 days away.

I am not really a big fam of Christmas and I'll tell you why. The stores are filled with people who'd rather run over you with other their buggy or worse their car in the parking lot. People have lost respect for other people..ie..excuse me or I'm sorry or anything courteous. The traffic is completely crazy. Ive nearly had a few wrecks this season because of crazy drivers.

I do, however, enjoy the family aspect of it all. i very rarely get to see all of my family at the same time unless theres a wedding or a funeral or Christmas. My sister and her family come in for California and we all m set at one place or another to hang out and open gifts or just sit and talk about whatever. I will say that I am looking forward to that part of it but not the part i mentioned before.

Its a jungle out there. be sure to wear protective gear while in the stores if you are like me and last minute shopping. Have a great day! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukah! Happy Kwanzaa! And everything else.

A Little Thanks

Good evening.

I am writing because I need to say thank you to the people who continue to support me and my love of photography. There are several who keep this dream of mine alive all the time. I have met some really wonderful people by either getting advice from, or taking their pictures or just by listening. I meet so many people in stores and at parks.

I met a lady this past Saturday morning at the park with her children and her dogs. She was suprised since her dog normally barks at pretty much everyone she doesn't know, but for some reason she didn't bark at me. I'm sure it's because she knows how awesome I am. Dogs can sense awesomeness...obviously. Anyway... we stood in the path and talked a good 15-20 minutes about dogs and photos and kids and Christmas. Believe it or not, this happens to me quite often. I can talk to people I don't even know and not be bothered by not knowing them. Usually in the end I have a potential client and even better a new friend.

So, the thank you's...I get off track quite a bit. If you know me, you know that.

First to my mom. She is quite cynical to pretty much everything I or my sisters do. I'm sure that's the protector in her. But she has encouraged me the whole time. She has always been my biggest fan, besides my husband. She always likes to see my pictures and tells me how amazing they are, even of they aren't. Thanks mom. Any my husband who makes me crazy sometimes but I don't know where I'd be without his love and support. My sisters. My sisters, Kym and Melissa let me photograph their kids and never say no when I ask. They are both so encouraging and always tell me, "You should be charging WAY more."

I have a GRREAT support system. I have also met some pretty awesome ladies via Facebook. Leiken, Leah, Lauren. Tiffany and Chrissy. They are all photographers as well and speak the tog (aka photog..aka photographer) lingo. It's hard to talk to "regular" people about your craft when they have no clue what you're talking about. These ladies are all so good at what they do.

Christmas is so close I can smell it. Literally. The fireplace has a fire burning and it always makes me think of Christmas. So have a great evening.

Gift Certificates

August 27, 2017.

Good afternoon.

I will be offering gift certificates for Christmas starting September 1st. The fee will be $100. That is half of the regular session fee, which is normally $200. Let me take you through the session process.

First, You or whoever wants to book with me. I get your info and an idea of what you are looking for as far as backgrounds, props, locations, number of people, style..as in maternity, engagement, family, baby or pets.

Second I get to work planning your session specific to what we've spoke about. That can take different amounts of time depending on your needs but usually about 1-2 hours.

Third, we meet to for your photos at the place and time agreed upon. I do not watch the clock. Session times can go for an hour on to two hours. I do not put a time limit because I find that when I time it, people watch the clock too much and worry about going over rather than relaxing and letting me photograph them. That's just me though. Every photographer is different.

Fourth, I take your images that we spent so much time on and put them into my magic machine..computer..and edit away. I don't edit a lot because I feel it takes away from the original image. This is by far the longest process. Usually it takes about 2 days to get through them all and to weed out the ones with the eyes closed or funky grins and maybe a mouth was open in a sentence. So I get all of that out and concentrate of the best ones. I will usually end up with 75-100 images to give you.

Fifth, I will put your images on ShootProof.com. This is an online gallery that only you have access to with a pin number. Your photos will only be up for a month. You will have unlimited downloading and you will be able to print will the online print release.

So I'm sure you ask why is it so expensive? Well, you hired me because you like my photos. It takes a lot of time to give you the photos you've hired me to produce. Total number of hours spent generally on a session is 16-20 hours. From the time you connect me to take them to the time I contact you to view them. I absolutely love what I do and I hope you love your images. I take great pride in my gift.

Thank you for reading and I hope you understand the process and the price a little better now.

Sandhills Day

This evening I will be traveling to the Monahans Sandhills, it's about 30 minutes from Odessa, to shoot an expectant mommy. I've never done a shoot at the sand hills but I have always wanted to. I am beyond excited to do this. I have some pink sand, a baby crown and some cute phrases to go along with mama's bump. She has made a tulle shirt to show off her belly. It's going to be so amazing. I'll post some photos on here after the fact of course. I love doing new things. My photo session schedule is starting to fill up. Have a great day!! God bless.

Hello! My name is Tammy Leyva. I own Purple Elephant Photography. I absolutely love taking pictures and have for a while now. Enjoy my images, I do. I don't say work, like some photographers, because to me it isn't work. I love what I do and I believe it shows in my images.
